William Leavell Print

On January 8, 2010 Bill Leavell passed away at his home in Meridian.     Bill was born June 10, 1933 in Lewiston, Idaho.  His sister Lorraine was one year old.

William BaldwinAfter a stay at the Idaho Children’s Home in Boise, six year old Bill was adopted by Oliver and Nellie Hetrick Leavell.   With his new family, Bill acquired an older sister, Maxine and some dear cousins.  Lorraine was adopted by another family.  The two families enabled Bill and Lorraine to sustain a lifelong relationship.

Bill attended elementary school in Boise and high school in Wilder.  His graduating class became a circle of friends who even now, care for and support one another.

While Bill was serving in the Air Force, his parents purchased a farm in Central Cove in western Canyon County.  There he met and married the girl next door, Lucile (Lucy) McArthur.  Three sons were born of their union.  Then they followed his parents’ example and reached out in love to adopt a daughter.

Bill worked as a laborer, supervisor and then manager in the gypsum industry.

During those years the family lived in Wyoming, Texas and Nevada. After their return to Idaho Bill developed, owned and managed residential properties.

Bill loved the mountains and explored the wilderness on horseback to camp, hunt, fish, or to just be there. His pilots’ license enabled him to explore them from above. He liked to golf, garden and travel and valued the company of friends and family. He was a loving leader for his family and lived his faith in Christ.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Maxine Knight.  He is survived by his wife Lucy, his sons and their wives: Monte and Jeneen, Gary and Theo, Wesley and Martha and by his daughter Christina, fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren,  his sister Lorraine Manker, nieces and nephews.
