Sarah Claire Schwartz, 84, formerly of Council, passed away in Boise, Idaho on June 24, 2011. Sarah was born November 15, 1926 in Brockton, Massachusetts, the third of five daughters born to Agostino and Assunta Spadea.
![]() She grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School in 1944. She then attended Bryant and Stratton Commercial School of Boston attaining an associates degree in accounting. In 1953, while visiting her sister Aurora who was living in Ferdinand, Idaho, she met Kenny Schwartz, the man who would later become her husband. They were married October 2, 1954 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Brockton, and soon moved to Moscow Idaho, where Kenny was attending the University of Idaho. From there, the family moved to Sunnyvale, California in 1960, and then back to Idaho, to Council, in 1966. Sarah enjoyed working with numbers, and held jobs with banks when she lived in Moscow and California, and worked in the Adams County Treasurer’s Office in Council. She loved to cook for her family and guests, and was especially well known for her Italian dishes. She was also actively involved with her local Catholic church. Sarah’s true passion, though, was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, whether it was reading to them, telling them stories from her childhood or cooking sourdough pancakes with them, letting them do the flipping. Sarah seemed to have an endless supply of love and patience.
Sarah was blessed this past year with extraordinary love and care provided by the Pattie House. Special thanks to Sunny, Wes, Kati, Dominique, and Edwin. Sarah was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Kenneth, her sisters Mary Kelleher and Aurora Curran, and her daughter Anne Marie Martes. She is survived by sons Jerome (Linda) of Salem, Oregon, Frank (Mary) of Idaho Falls, Kenneth M. (Dee Dee) of Nampa, daughters Karla (Dave) Reynolds of Kuna, and Sue (Rod) Linja of Boise, son-in-law Greg Martes of Eagle, sisters Sena Spadea and Laura Spadea of Brockton, Massachusetts, as well as 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild. To Sarah's Family I wanted to let you know what a true and loving friend your mother was to my mother, Florence Hart. Your mother visited our mother and took her to church when she could no longer drive herself. She was a true freind in every sense of the word. My prayers are with you. Dear Karla and Sue and Jerry and Frank and Ken and Family: I was just told of the passing of your Mom by your cousin Claude Curran and I was very saddened to hear the news. I met your Mom many years ago at Mrs. Curran house and also in Brockton at the funeral of a relative and the last time at Claude's house not too many years ago. Your Mom was a gracious and loving and faithful woman and she had class with a capital "C"! When Claude showed me her program from the funeral Mass I was struck by her photo, such kindness in her face, and also thought of her dear sister, Mrs. Curran. Your Mom's family is an extraordinary one and I feel so privileged that God gave me the opportunity to meet her and all of you....that He let me linger in her presence for a little while. God bless you and we shall pray to her as an advocate for us all in Heaven with Mrs. Curran and Anne Marie too. His Grace and Strength!
