Ruby E. Hall Print
Ruby Hall born December 4, 1918, passed away on January 27, 2010 in Caldwell, Idaho.

Ruby was the 5th daughter of Bessie and Charlie Smith, and was born in Austin Colorado.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers  Floyd, Chuck and Ralph Smith; sisters Leora Parrish, Leatha Smith and Edna Eley.

She lived in Colorado, Minnesota and New York, prior to moving to Los Angeles, California.  She was employed as a waitress at Joe Pettrelli’s Steak House in Inglewood California.  On December 24, 1946 she was introduced to the cook’s brother, Jim Hall who had just returned home from WWII.  They were married January 30, 1946 and would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year.

After their marriage, they lived a short time in North Dakota and returned to California and later moved to Idaho.  Ruby loved fresh tomatoes, canning fruits and vegetables; and picking and freezing corn.  She enjoyed fishing and was the camp cook for hunting trips.

She is best remembered for her excellent cooking especially her fried chicken, cinnamon rolls, homemade bread, all kinds of pies, cakes and Christmas candy and cookies.

Her hands were never idle.  She crocheted her daughter a queen size bedspread during many trips to North Dakota and Minnesota to visit family. She made personalized quilts for each of her nine grandchildren.  She enjoyed crocheting dollies, dishrags, Afghans, blankets and baby hats that she donated to local hospital nurseries.  Over the past several years, her hands were busy making personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends. Ruby’s greatest joy in life were her grandchildren

She is survived by her husband, Jim Hall, sons and (daughter- in- laws) Gary (Carmen) Hall Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jim Hall of Caldwell, Idaho Fred (Kathy) Hall of Meridian, Idaho; her daughter Barbara Burkett of Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.  Her sister Evelyn Weaver of Chino, California and brother Duane Smith and his wife Dee of Saint George Utah and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ruby touched the lives of many; she will be greatly loved and missed.  A memorial service will be held at the 1st Baptist Church of Eagle on Saturday January 30th at 1pm. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
