Rebekah "Becky" Hackney passed away peacefully on May 2, 2010 after a courageous 15-month battle with brain cancer. She was surrounded by her family at her residence in Boise, ID.
After the war her father married Betty who helped raise her. Becky graduated from Chico High School in 1963. She resided in CA until 1973 when she moved to Boise. She married her husband, Fred on May 4, 1991 and moved to Wasilla, AK. In 2004 they moved to Anchor Point, AK to retire. Becky had a great love for animals and flowers, but especially her dogs. She had a big heart and often times put other's needs before her own. She had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to make other people laugh, as well as laugh at herself. Survived by: Her husband of 20 years Fred Hackney, her parents Harley and Lula Thomasson, her children: Tammy (Rick) Boyd, James Aaron (Kathy) Smith, and Jeri Ann (Scott) Looney; step-children, Lee Hackney and Stacy Hymas, sisters Jeannie Moore and Marcia (Robert) White, and brother Gene Stewart, her grandchildren: Lisa Marie Gonzalez, Randi Bekka Rakestraw, Joleen MeriDale Boyd, Chistopher Lee, Sabrina Marie, Tayler and Karrah Looney and one great grandson Branden Rey Gonzolalez. Preceded in death by her birth mother Dora Meridel, step-mother Betty Smith, and grandmother, Doris Atkins. Memorial contributions can be made to American Brain Tumor Association. www.abta.org. A celebration of Becky’s life will be held on Friday May 7, 2010 at the Packard Estates Clubhouse, 2360 Hickory, Meridian, beginning at 6:00 p.m. There will be a memorial ceremony in Chico, CA on May 14th, 2010. Becky was very dear to all of us who worked with her at South Peninsula Hspital in the housekeeping department. She was a great employee, co-worker and friend. We never saw Becky without that contagious smile of hers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Becky's family and husband Fred. Rebekah was born on Feb. 26, 1944 in Oroville, CA. Her mother Meridel died during childbirth and she spent her first 3 years and many summers thereafter with her maternal grandmother Doris Atkins, while her father Harley was serving his country in WWII.
