Norman McMurtrie died unexpectedly in his sleep October 30, 2011 of natural causes at the age of 73.
![]() He was born November 26, 1937 in Rock Springs, WY. He attended school in Rock Springs until he moved to Boise his junior year. He married Susan Guetschow after high school, and served three years in
The Army. They had one child, Bruce Norman McMurtrie. After divorcing, Norman met and married Karen Reid. They had two children, Kristine Rene and David Michael “Mike”. Karen and Norman were married for 53 years. Norman worked successfully in sales management his whole career, in which he managed salesmen in 6 states for a Fortune 500 company. They lived in Pocatello, Boise and Seattle for 23 years, finally coming back to Boise. He was always happiest when in the mountains, skiing, riding trail bikes, snow mobiles, 4-wheelers, fishing and hunting, especially at the cabin Norman and Karen designed and built in the Cascades of E. Washington. He was a passionate golfer for his adult life. They also were able to travel extensively. After RVing for a few years, they bought a cabin and settled down to enjoy the beauties of Cascade and McCall. He suffered many health issues over time, but never slowed down in his pursuit of that elusive fish or deer. Norman was devastated by the loss of his son, Mike, his best buddy and hunting partner. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; daughter, Kris; son, Bruce (Lizzette); daughter-in-law, Rhonda McMurtrie; grandchildren: David, Maggie, Wesley McMurtrie, Jamie England Vick; great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jan Mallo; father-in-law, David Reid and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 14 at the MGT Legacy Church, 1507 N Meridian Rd.
