Jim Sullivan, 76, died at home on Saturday, November 7, 2009 surrounded by his family.
james sullivan

Jim was born on May 4th, 1933 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Alvas M. Sullivan and Elizabeth Bell Sullivan.  The family moved to Chester, Nebraska where Jim attended school from 2nd grade through high school.  He graduated from University of Nebraska majoring in Economics and Insurance.

Jim and his future wife, Willa, first met as 2nd graders when he moved to Chester in 1941; their relationship continued through high school and college culminating in marriage during a tornado, June 4, 1955.  They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together.

Jim enjoyed challenges in the form of high school sports, academics, and business.  He excelled in the insurance business and was a strong competitor in many areas.   He was forward thinking in responding to many insurance problems such as legal and medical malpractice finding successful solutions.

Living in Boise was an important facet of his life.  He participated in many civic, cultural, and political activities; honored by several organizations with special awards and leadership positions. He was a vocal lifelong Republican.  He was also an avid Boise Bronco and Nebraska Cornhusker football fan.

Religious activities also played an important role in his life as expressed through participation in activities at the Cathedral of the Rockies and the many leadership positions he held.

The strongest influences in Boise were his family and friends.  Daughter Jennifer Ober, son-in-law Michael Ober and grandson Matthew Sullivan Ober were the most important people to him in addition to his wife and a multitude of longtime loving friends.

His parents preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife, Willa; daughter, Jennifer Ober; son-in-law Michael Ober; grandson Matthew Sullivan Ober, sister and brother-in-law Dolores and Leonard Gano; Sister Patricia Brauer and numerous nieces and nephews.

His family wishes to express their appreciation to the MSTI doctors and St. Luke's Hospice personnel — Lee, Pat, and Jennifer.  His life and passing were made easier because “you made a difference both to him and his family”.

Memorials may be made to the Music Program of the Cathedral of the Rockies, 717 N. 11th St, Boise, Idaho 83702.  A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
