Jack Green Print

Jack E. Green, 76, of Wendell, Idaho passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from a massive stroke, at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho with his family at his side.

altHe was born August 18, 1935, in Buhl, Idaho to Ernest E. and Ruth E. (Petterson) Green. He joined a brother Harold and sister Barbara. Jack graduated from Buhl High School in 1953 and moved to the Treasure Valley. He continued his education at the College of Idaho and Boise State College in general business thru 1957. He graduated from Pacific Coast School of Banking in 1972 and completed various correspondence courses in accounting and banking in the following years. He married Patricia L. Hougaard in April 1955 and they were blessed with five children. They were later divorced.

In 1959 he went to work with First Security Bank in Boise and later transferred to the Nampa office as assistant manager of the installment loan department. In 1962 Jack accepted a position as a National Bank Examiner with the U.S. Treasury Department. In February 1967, he became the Vice President and manager of the new Farmers and Merchants Bank in Meridian and organized the daily operations of the bank.

In 1972 he became the manager of IB&T at Nampa and assisted in organizing and opening the Nampa branch. He ventured on his own in 1975, starting a company which manufactured wood and plastic products for the mobile home industry.

Jack met the love of his life, Velma Walker Taylor. They were married in June 1977, when he was blessed and became the father to three more children. They were married over 34 years. Jack and Velma purchased Midland Manor Nursing Home in 1978 and sold the facility in 1984. Jack purchased Dollar Rent-A-Car in Boise in 1985 and sold it the same year. A heart attack slowed him down.

He worked in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho at the Greyhound Race Track as a Paramutual Inspector in 1988 until he was hired by Farmers National Bank in 1989 as Branch Manager in Wendell, Idaho and left the bank in 1995. Jack was active in the Wendell Chamber of Commerce as a director and President. Jack helped organize Magic Valley Dairy Days and was instrumental in starting the fund for the band stand at the city park. He was appointed to city council for the city of Wendell in 1990.

Jack and Velma started Fast Bail Bonds in April 1996. Jack was the oldest bail agent and the company is the oldest locally owned bail business in the Magic Valley. He was active in PBAI, Professional Bail Agents of Idaho, holding various offices, and numerous committee positions.  Legislative committees were a favorite. He became an Honorary Member in 2010. Jack had too much fun doing bail bonds. He loved meeting people and knew no stranger.

Jack loved music. While in the Treasure Valley he played the Sousaphone for 1 year and drums for 13 years in the 25th Army Band. He played 23 years with the Don Roby Group. He began jamming with a group of professional musicians, all over 30 or 40 years old, in a back room at Victor’s in Caldwell in September 1980. The backroom overflowed and a bandstand was built in the Lounge area where the “Over the Hill Gang” played together thru November 11, 1983.

Jack loved family activities. As each family grew he tried to “keep in touch” with each grandchild or great grandchild so they would have a special memory.

Survivors include his wife, Velma of Wendell; children, Jacki L. (Mark) Pauley, Nancy L. (J.J.) Perez, Shirley L. Green-Healey, David E. (Kimberly) Green, Daniel J. Green, Kimberly A. Taylor-Clarke, Audi L. (Rick) Clinton, and Douglas D. (Tracy Bean) Taylor; 44 grandchildren, 38 great – grandchildren, friend Patz Green, and nieces, nephews and cousins. I had the pleasure of working under Jack when he was the branch manger at Farmer's National Bank in Wendell. Honestly, I have never worked for a more good-natured person in my life. I learned a lot from him and enjoyed my time with him as an employee. Later, Jack and Velma were my landlords for a year when we rented a home from them on 1st Ave. East in Wendell. Please accept my condolences for your loss. Jack will be missed in our community and by me, personally. Rest in peace, dear Jack. Sincerely, Kathy Hensley
