Irene E Wald Print

On October 6, 2009 Irene E. Feeny Boldon Wald passed away.  A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009 during Mass at Risen Christ Catholic Church, 11511 Lake Hazel Rd., Boise.

alt  Mass will begin at 11:00 A.M. and a reception will be held at the church immediately following the interment in the Risen Christ Columbarium.  Officiating will be Fr. Marcos Sanchez and Fr. Kenneth Wald.  Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.

Irene was born in Nampa, Idaho on November 11, 1926 to Frank and Agnes (Cummins) Feeny.  She attended schools in both Nampa and Boise, graduating from Nampa High in 1943, and married James G. Boldon on Sept. 1, 1944.  Three daughters were born to Jim and Irene.  She worked for Kings/Amour Meet Packing Plant in Nampa for many years as the PBX operator.  In 1966 she went to work for Albertsons as the District Office secretary in Boise.

Irene possessed such dignity and grace of character and had the most delightful twinkle in her Irish eyes!  It was so easy to see… "she just loved to have fun"!  During the Big Band era, she was the lead singer at the Mirmar Ballroom and starred in Boise Little Theater Productions.  In 1991 she won the Women's Challenge in Idaho for race walking in her age group!  Her dancing was renown… Her grandchildren write "Grandma taught us to dance, right in the middle of her kitchen".  Her daughter shares "I think I know every single word of every single song by Bobby Vinton!!”  She loved life to its fullest.

After the death of her husband of 28 years, she married Merlin "Boots" Wald and her family grew with the addition  of a daughter and son by marriage.

Irene was a member of Risen Christ Catholic Church.  Her life was full of service to others.  She was a volunteer for the St. Alphonsus "Festival of Trees" for many years, and a valued volunteer for Nazareth Retreat Center.

To the list all her accomplishments is impossible.  Just let it be said…. she was a gourmet cook, an expert seamstress, jitterbug teacher, an authority on shoe shopping, a fabulous artist and she possessed the singing voice of an angel.  However, in our family… Mamma sang bass and Daddy sang tenor!!  Describing Irene is like Maria in the Sound of Music …"She is like a wave on the sand or trying to catch a moonbeam in your hand".  She defies description.

Irene is survived by "her lover, her life and her friend, Boots Wald, her 4 daughters: Laurel Lynne Prophet, Patricia (Michael) Chandler, Tracey (Cal) Dillabaugh, Kelly Irving, and one son, Chuck Wald; 14 grandchildren, Jimmy, Kory, Katie, Richard, Ryan, Amy, Jason, Barry, Kacey, Jana, Chari, Casey, David and Daniel; 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  How utterly irreplaceable she will be.

Somewhere it is written… Sometimes the bonds of friendship include irrevocable loss which only heightens our awareness of how precious such affection is and then reminds us of the richness of a human connection, which is truly, one of God's great gifts.

The family kindly requests no flowers, but suggests memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association at www.alz.org or to your favorite charity.  Condolences may be made to the family online at www.accentfuneral.com

Irene brought joy and enthusiasm to anything she did. My fond memories were attending BSU games sitting next to Irene and Boots. No matter the weather or the score (yes, BSU lost then) you know that Irene would make the game great with her cheering and sharing of "treats" from home! We miss her and those days.
