Ida "Ruth" Shelton, age 97, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, the 3rd of September, 2011.
Ruth was a loving Christian wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a servant's heart and great love and commitment to her Lord, and enjoyed loving and caring for her family and friends.
Ruth was a very talented lady. She could bake pies that would make your mouth water. She did designed and sew most of her own clothing. She helped her husband Ernest design and build their motel, the Boron Motel in Boron, California. She also drew the plans for their other businesses and that of the Boron Baptist Church Sunday School facility. She worked right alongside her husband and could electrically wire the buildings, hang doors and windows, build cabinets, and lay tile. Whatever the job called for she could pretty much do. She and Ernest also built and operated the Shelton Variety and Hardware Store in Boron for many years. After they retired, both Ruth and Ernest volunteered for the Twenty Mule Team Museum in Boron. Ruth designed and made the flag for their fund raiser to start the museum. Ruth taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Boron for many years and sang in the church choir. In the late 1970s, she and her husband moved to Kuna, Idaho to be near her daughter, Tina and her family. There she was active in the Kuna Baptist Church. She was known to bake many a meal for special events and to be a host for numerous church members. Ruth sang many specials for her church throughout the years. She leaves behind her daughter Tina Hines (Gus) of Kuna, son Fred Shelton (Anne) of Portland, Oregon, and La Vern Walker (James) of New Mexico. She also leaves behind her eleven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Ernest Troy Shelton, her son John W. Shelton, her mother Irwinnia (Winnie), Margretta Gordon Freeman, her father John Andrew Freeman, Jr., her brother Aaron Freeman, and her sisters Brucie Klinger, Vivian Baldwin, and Retha Gaston. Ruth was a petite lady, but a giant of a woman. A celebration of her life will be held at the Kuna Baptist Church in Kuna, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5th.
