Howard M. Moore, 78, passed away at home on June 23, 2010 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Howard was born on March 9, 1932 in Melvern, Kansas to Harvey and Bessie Moore. The family moved to Meridian in 1936.
He attended schools in the Meridian area and graduated from Meridian High School in 1950. After graduation he went to work as a telephone lineman with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company.
Howard married his "Roller Drome Queen", Ellen Noble on May 23, 1952. In September 1952, Howard entered military service with the United States Army and served in Korea. In May 1953 he was discharged from active duty to the Army Reserves and resumed his career with the phone company. Howard received the Outstanding Graduate award from the Officers Candidate School in the first class of the Idaho Military Academy on June 20, 1958. Howard continued to serve in the National Guard, culminating his military career as Company Commander of the 116th Armored Calvary stationed in Weiser, Idaho. He always considered his work at the phone company as a career and something that he loved, not just a job. Howard was promoted to various positions within the phone company until his retirement in 1987, as a fourth level supervisor.
Howard enjoyed woodworking, pouring concrete, yard work, growing and sharing beautiful flowers and spending time with his family. He was an active volunteer for St. Al's, Life Flight, the American Legion, the VA Hospital, the Telephone Pioneers and was a generous contributor to operation Warm Heart at MHAFB.
Howard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ellen; son, Jerron (Debbie) Moore of Boise; daughter, Cheryl Hawkins of Boise; brother, Kenneth Moore of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: Curtis Moore, Tyler Hawkins, Tiffany (Robert) Howe, Eric Moore; and great-granddaughter, Cadence Howe. Howard was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Marla, parents, Harvey and Bessie Moore, sister, Elaine Moore and brother, Jim Moore.
