Henrietta Clara Peebles passed away on March 4, 2010 in Meridian, Idaho at the age of 89.
She was born in a coal mining town, Sublet, Wy. on December 22, 1920. Her father, Paul Bahem, came to the United States from Germany with his family in 1903. Her mother, Agnes Gavaghan, came to the United States from Ireland in 1912. She met Paul and married him in Butte, Mt. in 1919. They worked the ore and coal mines until Paul was killed in an explosion with two of his brothers on September 16, 1924 in Sublet.
Henrietta was known throughout her life as “Babe.” She lived in Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Oregon and Idaho for most of her life. She was living in Butte, Mt. when the Great Depression hit and her family walked away from their home and landed in Boise. On August 25, 1940, she married Robert S. Bunch in Mountain Home, Idaho. They had four children, Robert Lee, Colleen Dawn and twins - Lynn Thomas and Corrine Lushare. Robert worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and followed dam construction throughout the forties and early fifties. He worked on the Anderson Ranch Dam, Grand Coulee Dam and Palisades Dam. He died in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1955 while working on Palisades Dam. On May 4, 1956, Babe married Don L. Peebles and they later had a son, Don Leo. Don worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in several of the western states. They spent many years collecting rocks throughout the west and had a collection admired by many. The marriage ended when Don passed away in 1975. Babe moved from Utah to Idaho and lived with each of her two daughters for many years. Babe spent her remaining years living in Southwestern Idaho near her family. She was known as a great cook and she loved to garden. Her pies were especially loved by her family and friends. She worked in the yard until the last year of her life and she loved to see the flowers bloom. Babe also enjoyed knitting, quilt making, and working with arts and crafts. She will be remembered as a wonderful homemaker and good conversationalist with a sense of humor and contagious laugh. She made it fun to be with her. Babe will be remembered as one to volunteer and always lend a helping hand where needed. She had a deep and abiding faith in God and attended various protestant churches throughout the area. Babe was preceded in death by both parents and two sisters.
