George Miller, 90, died peacefully Tuesday August 11, 2009 at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. George died surrounded by many members of his loving family.
He was born June 10th, 1919 to Frances and Joseph Miller. George went to Maple Grove Grade School and graduated from Boise High in 1937. He proudly served his country in the South Pacific, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines in WWII. He was with the 41st Division, Field Artillery Battalion, Battery B. When he was discharged in 1945, he went to work as a professional sign and house painter for his brother Joe in Burbank, CA. In 1949, he married Bertha Josephine Pompe in Boise. They remained in Boise, where they raised a family and were happily married for 60 years. In 1946, George went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. After 28 years as an auditor he retired. He enjoyed his retirement with family and friends playing Pinochle, Cribbage and Skip-Bo. He was a passionate reader and his knowledge was vast. Most importantly he was a man of great faith. As a lifelong Catholic, George was a part of the community at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and later Our Lady of the Rosary. George loved to sing with his brothers and we fondly remember being serenaded at many family gatherings. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joseph David; three brothers: Joe Miller (wife Louie), Carl Miller (wife Wilma), Bill Miller (wife Helen); daughter-in-law, Nancy Miller and son-in-law, Terry Olson. He is survived by his wife Jo Miller, two daughters: Cathie Olson and Kellie Jo Allen (A.J. Allen); his sons: Michael Miller and Paul Miller (Deb Miller); sister-in-law, Jeanne Oakes (Walter Oakes); numerous nieces and nephews and a very dear friend Lillian Wilper. George had 7 grandchildren: Steve Johnson Miller, Eric Miller, Mary-Francis Allen, Brandon, Bradley and Blake Allen and Brady Frederick, and two very special grand nieces Alexandria and Samantha Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Lung Association or your favorite charity.
