Elaine Shirley Print
Elaine Johan Shirley of Nampa, ID, 73, died suddenly on April 23, 2010 while touring the sites in Orlando, Florida on a much anticipated vacation.

altaltElaine was born July 5, 1936 to parents Alvin and Agnes Reed at their home in Bellflower, California.

Elaine grew up in California with older brother, Donald, and older sister, Louise. As a child she was an active participant in many activities such as girl scouts. At Bellflower High School she was very involved in the Girls League and Girls Athletic Association.

Upon high school graduation, Elaine continued her education at Long Beach Community College and California State University, Long Beach, where she attained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

Although, she had always known her late husband, James Ronald Shirley, from the time they were in grade school they did not date until a year or so after high school graduation. Jim and Elaine fell in love and were married on April 27, 1956.

Elaine held a career at Rockwell International as a department supervisor up until 1976. In the mean time, Jim and Elaine were blessed with their only son, James Reed Shirley. After leaving Rockwell International Elaine and her family moved from California to Nampa, Idaho.

In Idaho, Elaine discovered her new love for the game of golf. So much, that she became a long standing member of Broadmore Country Club of Nampa, even serving on the board of directors, and spending many of her best days on the green. Elaine has even logged hole-in-one shots at both Broadmore and Purple Sage courses!

With her family, Elaine loved to spend time outdoors fishing, camping, and hiking the beautiful mountains of Idaho. She and her husband, Jim, spent much of their time raising and racing quarter horses for almost ten years.

In recent years, Elaine had taken up a life of traveling even after she survived a battle with cancer in 2007. With her partner in crime, Elmo Holt, she has traveled to such places as, Egypt, Rome, Italy, and other phenomenal countries. Together they discovered all the historical monuments of the eastern United States and the beautiful sights in Alaska and Hawaii that can only be experienced in person. When Elmo and Elaine were not on a boat, plane or train they liked to spend their time on his ranch in Arizona.

Elaine is preceded in death by both parents, Alvin and Agnes Reed, brother Donald Reed and husband James Ronald Shirley.

Survived by sister Louise Reed of Signal Hill, CA, son James (Dani Sue) Shirley of Twin Falls, grandson Eric Shirley of Twin Falls and granddaughter Katie Shirley of Boise.

Elaine was a character of health and happiness and left those that loved her with memories that will last lifetimes beyond us. A celebration of her life and love will be held Friday May 7th, 2010 at the Meridian Friends Church, 1021 W Pine Ave, Meridian ID, at 11:00 AM.  Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.accentfuneral.com
