Dorothy Hobson Kimball, age 90, of Emmett Idaho passed away quietly from natural causes Wednesday August 26 2009 with family and friends by her side.
She is survived by her two younger siblings, Joe Hobson and Elenor Brewer, youngest daughter Jan Gardner and husband Bill, two grandchildren Shawn Gardner, wife Sarah and Kasey Gardner, wife Britteny and great-grandson Ashton Gardner. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Kendrick Clyde Kimball, siblings Martha Langley and Richard Hobson, and two sons, Paul and Robert Kimball.
She was born August 9th, 1919 to Emery and Sarah Hobson in Hutchison, Kansas and spent her childhood growing up on the farm. In 1937, she attended school at the Bresee Hutchinson Kansas College Academy with an emphasis on nursing. From there, she began her career at Koiser Hospital in Vancouver, Washington and worked there until she was drafted into WWII to work as a nurse. She was never deployed and returned to school at Northwest Nazarene College for one last semester. Upon graduation, she worked as a Public Health Nurse for Santa Barbara County in California until she married Kendrick Clyde Kimball on June 14th, 1948. Clyde and Dorothy moved to Oakland, California where Dorothy worked for the Oakland School Department until retirement. In retirement, Dorothy and Clyde traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East. She was also very active in her local church and enjoyed spending time working in her garden. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Idaho Chapter. |
