David L Gress, 87, passed away June 2, 2010 at the Idaho State Veterans Hospital due to a stroke. Graveside services will be held at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens at 10 AM Monday June 7, under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
Dave was born in Grandview Idaho to Jake LeRoy and Esther Gress August 2, 1922 and spent his early years in Fruitland and Star. As a teenager he worked away from his family until graduating from Grandview High School at the top of his class. He married Emma Rose Ireland in 1940, a union that resulted in 61 years of togetherness and three sons. After serving in the Navy in World War II, he returned home to work diligently in many jobs, usually two or three at a time to keep the family from knowing the hard times experienced in his early life. His main career was as superintendent of irrigation for most of the Boise valley, blended with farming and ranching and other professions to keep the bills paid. He is survived by his three sons, Dennis (Michelle) of Nampa, George (Kristeen) of Juneau Alaska, and Duane (Martha) of Meridian, 13 grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and others whose lives he has touched. He is preceded in death by his wife Emma Rose in 2002, mother, dad, his brother John and sisters Leva, Margaret and Edna. His family would like to thank the Idaho State Veterans Home for the care and comfort they have provided for the past several years, and request that memorials or donations in lieu of flowers be made to Idaho State Veterans Home or your favorite charity.
