Cheryl Ella Curtis Burgess, 67, of Middleton, Idaho passed away at home on June 7, 2011.
Cheryl was born September 17, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to Dean J. & Muriel Curtis. Cheryl was the third of four daughters. Most of her growing up years was spent in Potlatch, Idaho. After graduating from high school she moved to Nampa to continue her education. In later years she returned to school graduating from Boise State University with a BS Public Affairs and then entered a MS program. Cheryl married Theron (Terry) Burgess on December 24, 1962 in Winnemucca NV. During their years together they lived in Nampa, Meridian, Boise, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls and Middleton. She was preceded in death by her father, Dean Curtis; step-father, G. D. “Bud” Thompson and grandson, Terry James Whittle. Cheryl is survived by her husband, Theron Burgess; her mothe,r Muriel Curtis Thompson and sisters: Patti (Gene) Walters of Potlatch, ID; Deanna (Jerry) Nagle of Lewiston and Vicki Rumfelt of Anchorage, AK; step-brother Jerry (Donna) Thompson, Palouse WA and step-sister, Janet (Butch) Brattner of Palouse WA. She is also survived by her daughter Shannon Burgess of Idaho Falls, and sons: Clint (Helen) Burgess of Star, Curtis (Cindy) Burgess of Idaho Falls and Gregg Burgess of Boise. She has 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated June 18 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Apostles Catholic Church on 6300 N. Meridian Road, Meridian, ID. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Vincent de Paul, American Cancer Society-Lung Cancer Research or your favorite charity.

Terry, I'm sorry for your loss and the sadness that follows. This fork in the road that we all eventually come to is nevertheless painful. Though we have not spent much time together my heart aches knowing the changes that lie ahead. I pray that God will offer some comfort and direction as you sort it all out, and plan for the paths you will take in the future ahead. |



Throughout her life, Cheryl maintained a fighting spirit and a positive attitude. Filled with an adventurous spirit, she enjoyed hiking, packing in the Idaho backcountry, traveling, reading and playing cards. Cheryl promoted the importance of science and math education. She spent 20+ years employed by the Idaho National Laboratory as an education and community liaison, building community partners and promoting science and math education. She often commented that she had the best of all positions and co-workers. Throughout the years many wonderful friendships developed. She was a member of The Discovery Center of Idaho, Idaho Science Teachers Association, Treasure Valley Backcountry Horseman, BSU Lifetime Alumni Member, and American Association of University Women.
