Beulah Louise (Mace) Bengtson died peacefully at the age of 95 at the Good Samaritan Society - Boise Village on Christmas Day, December 25, 2009 with her family by her side.
She was born in a tar-papered shack on the cold Canadian prairie near Bengough, Saskatchewan, Canada to Albert and Marion (Davis) Mace on March 23, 1914, formerly of Summit, South Dakota. At the age of 18 months, the family returned to the States. The first ten years of her life she lived in the former Mace home near Browns Valley, MN where she attended a rural school. In 1925, the family moved to a farm near Mohall, ND. They lived on several farms and finally settled in Grassland Twp., south of Mohall. Beulah graduated from high school here, where she met her husband, Harold Bengtson of Greene, ND. They were married on November 15, 1934. They continued to farm and in 1941 moved to a farm in Montrose Twp. near Lansford, ND. Four children were born to this union: Gloria Hutchinson of Boise, ID, Dennis Bengtson (deceased), Virginia Capranos of Austin, MN, and Jeffrey Bengtson of Deephaven, MN. Harold retired from farming in 1977 and they moved into Lansford. Harold passed away in June of 1978. Beulah spent the winters in Arizona and in 1987 sold her home in Lansford and took up permanent residence in Mesa, AZ. In 1993 she moved to Idaho to be near her daughter, Gloria, where she remained until her death. Beulah enjoyed sewing and painting. She won first place at the ND State Fair for her ND painting in 1974 and overall best of show in Arts and Crafts – she was a very talented and caring woman. Nearly all her married life, Beulah was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lansford. After moving to Arizona she became a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Mesa. At the time of her death she was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Boise, ID. She also was a 50 year member of the Lansford Chapter of the Eastern Star. Her parents, two brothers, Winfred and Glen, her husband, Harold and son, Dennis, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing: daughter Gloria, of Boise, ID, daughter Virginia (Richard) Capranos of Austin, MN, son Jeffrey and his partner, David Bjork, of Deephaven, MN, daughter-in-law Arlene Bengtson of LaQuinta, CA, and, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren, as well as her dog and best friend, Abby. The family thanks the Good Samaritan Society - Boise Village for all their care and compassion during Beulah’s time with them. They made a huge difference in the time she was there and in the last days of her life. There are so many individuals to thank, including Pastor Spiedel, Meg, and Heidi, who were with her the last few hours of her life, Stephanie, Leslie, Anna, Bobbie and Deb, and too many others to mention. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Beulah’s name to the Good Samaritan Society - Boise Village. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church located at 4601 S. Surprise Way, Boise on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Joe Dorociak officiating. Funeral services are provided by Accent Funeral Home of Meridian, to whom the family is eternally grateful for their assistance and sensitivity during this difficult time. Go with God, Beulah, our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother and Friend. We love you very much!

We will miss her so much, but know she was tired and ready to join her husband, son, parents, brothers and other family and friends who had passed on before her.
