Allen F. Garratt Print

Allen Frank Garratt went to be with his heavenly father on November 24th, 2011 after suffering a hard fought 3 week battle with (AML) Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

altAllen was born on March 30th, 1962 in Orange, CA to Frank and Grace Garratt. Allen attended various schools in Garden Grove and Santa Ana, before they settled down in Orange CA. He graduated from Canyon High School in Anaheim Hills, CA in 1980. After graduation, Allen and his good friend Steve Kerbel took a road trip by themselves to Alaska, exploring many wonderful sites along the way.

Allen attended Fullerton Junior College and graduated in 1983 with a B.A. in Landscape Management. He then moved to San Luis Obispo to attend California Polytechnic Institute, majoring in Ornamental Horticulture. While attending Cal Poly SLO, Allen met Lori Riewald whom he later married in 1985. That same year they had their first child, a son named Kenneth Allen.

Allen graduated from California Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture in 1986. After Lori graduated in 1987, Allen, Lori and Kenny moved to Orange County CA. In 1989, their daughter, Heather Lynn was born.

In January 2005, Allen decided to move his family to Boise ID, in the hopes of making a better life for his family. Later that year, their third child was born, Kimberly Ann.

At the time of Allen’s death, he was employed by Zamzows. He loved helping people design the garden and landscape of their dreams.

Allen is survived by his wife Lori; their three children: Kenneth, Heather and Kimberly all of Meridian; his father and step-mother, Frank and Margaret Garratt of Wichita, KS; his mother, Grace Garratt of Meridian, ID; his grandmother, Alberta Arner of Orange, CA; his sister Deborah Dinneen (Brian) of Center Barnstead, NH; his sister, Sharon Friel (Brian) of Boise ID and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Warren Arner of Orange, CA and his grandmother, Henrietta Garratt of Minneapolis, MN.

Funeral services will be held at Boise Five Mile Church of the Nazarene, 2701 Five Mile Rd., Boise on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 1:00PM.  Following the services, interment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Accent Funeral Home, 1303 N. Main, Meridian on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
